The Importance of Parental Involvement

Believing that every child has a human right to a quality educational experience, parents must be convinced that a well educated, nurtured, supported, and exposed child will become a vital, vibrant, and contributing member of society. Developing this philosophy requires every parent to become an Advocate for your child!

You are your child's first, primary, and most important advocate for academic success. You must be willing to learn more about your student, contribute to the teacher's understanding about your child, and work in partnership with the teacher and the school. A parent's engagement is the catalyst for a child's learning value for not only academic achievement, but respect for authority and behavioral responsibility.

Action:
Take ownership. Get involved now and understand the issues and share in the process of helping to create better schools.

Research shows that students whose parents are involved in their education are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades and test scores
  • Complete homework more consistently
  • Attend school more regularly
  • Have better social skills
  • Show improved behavior
  • Adapt well to school
  • Have higher self-esteem
  • Have better relationships with their parents
  • Graduate and go on to college

Parents who know their children's teachers and help with the homework and teach their kids right from wrong--these parents can make all the difference." President Bill Clinton, State of the Union Address
