The BBHL Foundation and Houston Area Urban League will host there Second Annual Summer Reading Challenge this summer in the City of Houston My Brother’s Keeper three Houston ISD feeder patterns: Kashmere, Scarborough and Wheatley High Schools. The camps will be facilitated by John Robinson, Houston Area Urban League Education Director and Scholastic national facilitator/keynote.

The four day camps will be hosted at three elementary schools, one from each feeder pattern:

All of the elementary and middle schools from each of the three high school feeder patterns are invited to have their students attend the camp in their feeder pattern. We will work with HISD to provide transportation from all elementary schools campuses to the camp site.
Camp Day 1 of each camp will be a Family Literacy Night to introduce camp rules, expectations, volunteers and activities. Event time: 5:30pm to 7:30pm
Camp Days 2-4 at each camp site will be centered on Stopping the Summer Reading Slide with Scholastic’s My Book Summer:
1) Providing Access to Books that will allow student to practice the TEKS standards using fiction and nonfiction books
2) Adapting to Reading Abilities and Interest, we will select books that meets each students’ needs by providing books packages aligned to reading/grade levels.
