The Houston Area Urban League could not serve Houston communities without the support of Houston citizens, businesses, governmental agencies, and other public organizations.

There are a number of ways to support The Houston Area Urban League:

A donation to the Houston Area Urban League is tax deductible way to help our organization:

  • Provide training to adults in the areas of job readiness, job retention, computer literacy, and entrepreneurship.

  • Provide technology equipment and access centers for adults and children.

  • Provide  various opportunities to our customers (i.e. networking sessions, business development, recruitment activities, etc.).

  • Provide mentoring, teaching and recognition for academic excellence to children ages 3 to19 and above.

  • Provide counseling and training to enable some Houston citizens to buy their first home and assist others to keep their current home.

  • Provide a place where you can always go to get help.

Become a Volunteer

The Houston Area Urban League welcomes community involvement in the day-to-day process of serving the citizens of the Greater Houston Area. 

Volunteer opportunities exist to provide individuals an opportunity to become closely involved with the agency while serving the needs of the community.

Urban League Guild of Houston (Guild)

The Urban League Guild is the volunteer are of the agency whose mission is to promote volunteerism and raise funds for the youth and education programs of the League.  The Guild provides a wealth of volunteers for many agency programs in the community.  Membership in the Guild includes one individual Houston Area Urban League Membership.  Visit http://www.haulguild.net/ for more information.

 

The Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals (YP)

The Young Professionals foster opportunities for professional development through education/training, mentoring/outreach, and programming while providing a social forum for networking in the community - all while supporting the objectives of the Urban League.  Visit www.haul.org/yp for more information.

How Supporting the Houston Area Urban League Benefits Houstonians

The Houston Area Urban League (the League) has been a beacon of hope, a helping had, a resource base, and a doorway to future possibilities, meeting people where they are and taking them to fulfillment and success.

The League's staff, volunteers, and partners help create opportunities for clients to:

  • Own a home

  • Learn technology skills to earn a better wage

  • Start a small business

  • Develop a healthier lifestyle

  • Succeed in school

  • And More

Here are a few examples of what supporting the Houston Area Urban League does for Houston communities:

  • Over 1,500 students inducted into the National Achievers Society and over 7,000 books distributed to low-income children and their families to help them begin home libraries.

  • Over 1,000 individuals received free onsite physician, optometrist and other health related screenings and information during the annual "Take A Loved One to the Doctor Day".

  • Over 450 clients were able to engage in the home buying process for the first time through workshops and one-on-one counseling.

  • Over 6,000 individuals acquired the necessary job readiness skills and were provided employment opportunities needed for job search success through annual job fairs, employment training, and one-on-one counseling.

  • Over 400 individuals were able to learn the skills to start a small business, network with other small business owners to foster collaborations and partnerships that help existing small business owners continue to grow and better participate in today's global economy.

  • Hundreds of students were able to successfully transition to middle or high school, achieve academically, gain scholarship, look behind the scenes of a business to find a future career, or set and meet goals for a brighter future through continuous mentoring, tutoring and counseling.

  • Many individuals were able to complete intensive training for Microsoft Office Specialist Certification and acquired unsubsidized employment at wages that were significantly above minimum wage.
