2016 Census Test Employment Opportunities

The U.S. Census Bureau is researching modern and cost-efficient methods for the population to exercise its civic obligation to be counted in the 2020 Census. Whether through the Internet, telephone, traditional paper questionnaires, or in-person visits, the Census Bureau is committed to making the mandatory once-a-decade headcount quick, easy, and safe for all to participate.

The 2016 Census Test will allow the Census Bureau to, on a small scale, employ a variety of new methods and advanced technologies that are under consideration for the 2020 Census. The Census Bureau will test new design, implementation, and management processes. We will also evaluate new technology for collecting and processing responses to the census.

For this 2016 Census Test we are currently looking to fill approximately 600 positions throughout selected zip codes in Harris County. We respectfully request your assistance and cooperation in this endeavor through placing information on your show or allowing a U.S. Census Representative on Univision's public affairs media to discuss the 2016 Census Test jobs and encouraging the entire 225,000 households that are selected to participate in this 2016 Census Test to fill out the census online before a Census Field Interviewer knocks at their door.

We would like for the HUL to use your methods to communicate with the membership to inform about available positions at your earliest convenience. I would also like to discuss with you and the Houston Urban League (HUL) in greater detail of what the 2016 Test is all about, the schedules so the specific households selected to participate in the 2016 Census Test will be fully informed about the process and what we are doing in their neighborhoods during the non-response follow-up phase of the test.

The Census Bureau is accepting applications and testing enumerators and local supervisors for the 2016 Census Test in portions of Harris County, Texas.
