Workforce Training Programs

The use of computer technology has become a major requirement in the workplace today as a means of increasing productivity and efficiency in processing information.  In many cases, the proficiency as an end user of computer technology determines one's qualification for employment.

Since 1992, the Houston Area Urban League Community Technology Center (CTC) has been actively involved in helping Houston citizens meet the employment challenges brought about from the fast paced innovations occurring in computer technology.

Two of the dominant applications being used in computer technology are Windows-based applications and the Internet.  The Houston Area Urban League, offers several courses that provides the necessary skills become a proficient user of these technologies:

Introduction to Computers (40 Contact Hours)

  • Keyboarding

  • Basic Introduction to Computer Technology

  • Introduction to Windows

  • Microsoft Office Application Overview

Microsoft Office Applications (140 Contact Hours)

Curriculum tailored for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification

  • Microsoft Word

  • Microsoft Excel

  • Microsoft Access

  • Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Introduction to the Internet and Electronic Mail

Note: The Houston Area Urban League Community Technology Center is an authorized MOS Testing Center.
