HAUL Joins “Democracy is Me” Coalition

October 4, 2022 In Message from Our President
The time to work together as a community is long overdue. For years our organizations have worked hard to improve our communities but not always in unison with one another. The Houston Area Urban League is striving to form powerful Collaborations to help accelerate the work to save our communities. We will continue to work with like-minded organizations, philanthropists, corporations, activists, and others to combine our strengths and work together for a better future for our families and their futures. We are stronger together!

Recently a collaboration of local minority organizations formed a coalition to join forces in order to address challenges facing our community, realize short-term goals, and strategize long-term solutions as well as increase voter registration/participation as part of its core focus. The projected outcome of this collaborative initiative is to strengthen our community in the core areas of education, mentoring, economic and housing development, and health disparities within our community. The organizations within this coalition include the Houston Area Urban League, the NAACP Houston branch, the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce, and the 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston Chapter Inc. Collectively, they are the “Democracy is Me” Coalition. This coalition of organizations will be partnering with other organizations to host events in an effort to form an alliance with the community. As the coalition moves forward, we would like you to join us in supporting the following upcoming events:

  • NAACP Statewide Day of Action held on October 1st
  • Please see the attached flyer for more info
  • Appearances on Fox26 channel
  • Election Watch Party – Nov. 8th

The “Democracy Is Me” coalition will continue to establish additional opportunities to bring the community together. Realizing that this movement will take the undergirding of the membership of each organization, we’re asking for your ongoing support to further the mission of the coalition’s endeavors.

For additional information, please feel free to reach out to a lead officer of each prospective organization.

Sincerely,

The “Democracy is Me” Coalition
