Thank you to our generous donors, sponsors, partners and guests for making the Houston Area Urban League’s 5th Annual Advancing Opportunity Luncheon a tremendous success. Held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the Hilton Americas-Houston, the sold-out luncheon brought together more than 306 business, civic, education, healthcare, philanthropic and community leaders in support of our mission to empower communities and help individuals and families achieve economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights. Centered on the theme, “Mobility in Motion: Investing in People, Pathways & Progress for a Stronger Houston,” the event featured a powerful Advancing Opportunity Conversation moderated by The Honorable Teneshia Hudspeth, Harris County Clerk and Chief Election Official, with panelists Dr. Ruth N. López Turley, Melissa Hensley and Cathy Easter. Because of the generosity of those who invested in this work, the luncheon raised more than $260,000 to help expand access to education, workforce development, housing, entrepreneurship, health and social service programs across Greater Houston. We are deeply grateful for every gift, sponsorship and act of partnership that helps move people, families and communities forward.
About our Event
The Advancing Opportunity Luncheon is the Houston Area Urban League’s premier mid-year fundraiser — bringing together influential business leaders, policymakers, and community advocates united by a single purpose: shaping a stronger, more equitable Houston. Guided by this year’s theme, “Mobility in Motion: Shaping What’s Next for Houston! Investing in People, Pathways, and Progress for a Stronger Houston,” the event sparks bold, forward-thinking dialogue on how strategic investments in workforce development, education, entrepreneurship, and community infrastructure can fuel inclusive economic growth across our region. More than an event, the luncheon is a catalyst where vision meets action, and shared commitment drives real change, expanding access to opportunity and ensuring Houston’s growth lifts every community. All proceeds directly support the Houston Area Urban League’s transformative programs, empowering individuals, strengthening families, and uplifting communities throughout Greater Houston.
