Economic Development Programs
Dreaming of owning and operating a business is the first step in becoming an entrepreneur. The Economic Development Department provides multiple opportunities for small business owners to develop their skills through training, mentoring, and networking. Each month we offer business orientation for clients seeking information on the basic principles of entrepreneurship on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 1301 Texas Avenue from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. B.A.S.E. Training (Business Alliance for Successful Entrepreneurship), an intensive training, is held twice a year, spring and fall classes, and focuses on the complete process of business planning. A core group of professional volunteers facilitate over a six-week period in their respective fields. Topics include, the certification process, legal issues, financial planning, marketing, professional development, e-commerce, strategic planning, the business plan and taxes, to name a few.
