(HAUL) in partnership with Houston Independent School District College Readiness Emerge program coordinated a Career Day for middle school students at two schools in the Worthing High School feeder – Attucks MS and Woodson K-8. The purpose of the Career Day was to provide students with knowledge about career options and prepare students to meet Texas and HISD’s high school graduation requirements. The Career Day is one of HAUL’s many efforts to help middle school students begin planning for their high school years and a career that meets their interests and post-secondary goals.
Professionals in the following careers: 1) Hospitality, 2) Health, 3) Logistics and Global Supply, and 4) Business – Risk Management shared their knowledge and career experience with 7th and 8th grade students at Attucks. The professionals discussed 1) a typical work day, 2) career requirements, 3) career outlook (i.e. salary), 4) their personal career story, and 5) some interesting career facts to help students determine a career pathway. The presenter and professional were from Port of Houston, State Farm, NASA, Crane Worldwide, El Tiempo, Benihana Restaurants and Stewart Global Logistics. HISD CATE and Emerge were also present and co-coordinated the event. The HISD Sterling High Magnet Coordinator also presented.
