Crane Technician Position Summary:
Assist in troubleshooting, adjusting, repairing, and conducting preventative maintenance on Port Houston cranes.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
· Learn and apply technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems to determine equipment malfunction and restore it to OEM standards
· Assist in inspection, repair, and maintenance of wharf and RTG cranes
· Assist in diagnose problems or recurring malfunctions; choose the course of action and repair or troubleshoot techniques to diagnose problems
· Assist in diagnosing electrical or mechanical problems by the use of appropriate equipment and tools such as voltmeters, hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and other tools common to the trade
· Assist in diagnose and repair component parts of machinery including gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, compressors and other related parts
· Ensure safety and environmental procedures are exercised during the performance of daily activities
· Study and learn electrical controls and circuits installed on Port Houston equipment
· Study and learn electrical medium voltage switchgear
· Work with Mechanics and Electricians coordinating maintenance related activities with manager on duty during shift work
· Assist in installing electrical controls and circuits for a variety of electrical equipment such as lighting systems, motors, and control cabinets
· Assist in replacing worn, defective, or damaged equipment, using appropriate equipment and tools such as multi meters, conduit benders and other tools common to the trade; interpret blueprints, sketches and drawings in installing and troubleshooting electrical equipment
· Read and use factory manuals and blueprints as required to fulfill job assignments
· Assist in estimating and obtains supplies needed for electrical work assignments
· Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
· Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor

· Perform other related duties as required
Education/Experience:
· High School diploma or GED equivalent required
· 2+ years electrical experience
· 2+ years related electrical experience required
· Electrician Journeyman License preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:
· Knowledge of relevant electrical codes: National Electrical code or the National Safety code
· Knowledge of basic electronic troubleshooting and repairs
· Knowledge of environmental and security controls
· Ample knowledge of electricity, electrical systems and equipment operating at the PHA.
· Knowledge of control circuits, DC and AC crane drives, DC and AC motor maintenance, power distribution, and overall function of container handling cranes
· Knowledge diagnostics and repair
· Knowledge of mechanics
· Knowledge of millwright repair and maintenance
· Knowledge of safety precautions necessary to deal with occupational hazards
· General working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel)
· Judgment and quick-thinking skills
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
· Ability to obtain State of Texas Electrician’s license
· Ability to operate forklift, if needed
· Ability to climb and be comfortable at heights
· A current, valid Texas driver’s license is required
· A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment
