Where the chemistry happens…
As a Lab Technician in our Oilfield Chemicals group you will perform application testing in our Houston technical service laboratory supporting the standard ingredients business line to identify the right BASF chemistry for customer specific needs. The position will primarily support technology projects in the areas of surfactant and emulsion breakers applied in production, stimulation, and drilling applications. The Laboratory Technician will report to the Technical Service Manager for the biocides and standard ingredients business-line. The highly self-paced and motivated person will provide hands-on laboratory support to solve customer problems and generate innovative technical solutions.
During your shift as a Lab Technician, you will
• Work in a team environment across multiple disciplines and cultures and incorporating safe work procedures in all aspects of the job while maintaining a safe work environment in the laboratory (e.g. Drafting procedures for running and maintaining equipment per HSE standards)
• Have a solid working knowledge of oilfield laboratory techniques for performing application testing (e.g., rheology measurements, demulsification bottle testing, phase separation, core flood, corrosion, friction reduction, surface tension and foam testing, ect.)
• Support customers doing formulation work, generate/plan test matrix, conduct tests, analyze and interpret data, provide conclusions and recommendations
• Assist in building, installing, and maintaining specialized equipment designated for oilfield applications (e.g. Swagelok tubing and fittings, ISCO pumps, fluid accumulators, pressure vessels, relief devices, vacuum pumps, etc).
• Be required to travel to support customers in the field as necessary.
If you have…
• A Bachelor of Science Degree in a related scientific discipline (e.g. Engineering, Chemistry, Physics)
• Minimum of 3-5 years laboratory experience with operation and maintenance of complex or heavy laboratory equipment, oilfield related preferred
• A Master of Science Degree in Chemistry, Engineering or other Physical Science, preferred
• Previous internship experience, preferred
