Today, hundreds gathered as prominent civil rights and political leaders addressed attendees during this year’s Legacy Leadership Awards Luncheon at the National Urban League’s 4-day conference.

HOUSTON, TX (July 28, 2023) – “We are fortunate to have leaders like Secretary Becerra, Ben Crump and Keith Ellison who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of justice and the continued fight for civil and human rights for all Americans,” said Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League. “We are at a crossroads in our nation’s history and the work that these men do on the ground is instrumental to the work and foundation of our organization. I want to thank the Guilds for hosting this event here today and look forward to our continued partnership on the work and journey ahead.”

“Established in 1942 by Mollie Moon, the National Council of Urban League Guild is an auxiliary volunteer group that supports the National Urban League and its affiliates across the country. Throughout its 77-year history, the Guild has stimulated, developed, and promoted volunteer advocacy through local Urban League Guilds. That work continues to this day, empowering communities and changing lives.

“Every year, the National Council of Urban League Guilds hosts the Legacy Leadership Awards Luncheon to pay tribute to Guild members who are leading the charge and have dedicated their lives to advocate for those who need the most help. We proudly recognize a diverse ensemble of trailblazing individuals who inspire and motivate their communities to strive for greatness in every way.

“The 2023 National Urban League conference is set to be the largest and most influential gathering focused on civil rights and urban advocacy in the nation. Year after year, this event brings together leaders from various sectors including business, government, and social advocacy, who are dedicated to exploring critical issues and initiatives that profoundly impact the communities served by the Urban League network of 92 affiliates across the country.”

The National Urban League is a historic civil rights organization dedicated to economic empowerment in order to elevate the standard of living in historically underserved urban communities. The National Urban League spearheads the efforts of its 92 local affiliates through the development of programs, public policy research and advocacy, providing direct services that impact and improve the lives of more than 2 million people annually nationwide.
